The project was a $53.4m joint venture between Seymour Whyte Constructions and Clough Engineering to undertake the civil construction works associated with a new gold mine.
The scope of works included earthworks, roads, heavy concrete foundations, 25m deep crusher reinforced concrete crusher pit including substantial temporary works to stabilise the lower sections and reclaim tunnels. Works also included tank foundations, extensive slab on ground and water retaining structures.
Through a Value Engineering process, the joint venture worked collaboratively with the client and superintendent to develop substantial cost efficiencies.
The project was delivered under stringent time restrictions leading to many challenges such as the mobilisation of and accommodation of the large work force required to achieve the work quantum.
