The $8.5m project involved the demolition of the existing aquatic centre, construction of three new pools (50m x 8 lanes, 25m x 4 lanes and a toddler's pool), new pump station, filtration system and amenities building, and refurbishment of the existing heritage memorial building.
Associated works included the installation of shade structures, a grandstand, lighting and landscaping.
Numerous innovative solutions and alternative designs were employed in this project to improve efficiencies and to provide value for money to the customer, such as:
- An innovative formwork system enabling pools concrete wet deck channel to be poured in conjunction with pool walls
- A 30 tonne pin jib crane placed on the 50m pool slab solved issues related to concrete pumping and delivery receipts
- An innovative survey and set-out solution utilising piano wire to ensure that accurate dimensions and the very tight tolerances were achieved to satisfy FINA standards for the pool shell and the tiled surfaces
- The foundation piles were changed from standard bored piles (founded in Lismore Pug -very poor saturated clay) to Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles
- Successful design and implementation of equi-potential bonding plan for entire site to enable positioning of new transformer substation close to large bodies of pool water
- Solar hot water system was changed to Quantum Heaters
- The grey water system was added to re-use backwash water in the amenities
- Xypex water proofing additive added to pool concrete mix
- Heat exchangers changed from cupronickel to titanium
