Bruce Highway Upgrade, Isis River Bridge Replacement

The $13.8m Isis River Bridge Replacement involved the replacement of the existing 54-year-old bridge on the Bruce Highway south of Childers.

The Bruce Highway plays a significant role in providing freight movement and access to north Queensland. About 7200 vehicles travel on this section of the road each day.

The new bridge measures two metres wider and almost seven metres higher than the existing bridge, improving flood immunity. The new alignment has also eliminated tight curves improving safety for the 7,000 motorists using this section of the highway each day.

Benefits of the upgrade include improved safety for all road users, a higher and wider bridge, improved road alignment, smoother road surface, improved property accesses, a new guardrail, better signage and removal of roadside obstacles.
