Gold Coast Rapid Transit Southport Roadworks
Situated in the heart of the Gold Coast’s medical, tourism and commercial precincts, the $42.4m Southport Roadworks project has given Seymour Whyte the opportunity to build on its reputation for delivering highly complex civil infrastructure works in dense urban environments, where traffic management, and community and stakeholder engagement presented significant challenges for the project team.
An early works package for the Gold Coast Rapid Transit, (GCRT), the project has involved road widening and utility relocation to prepare a section of the corridor for construction of light rail tracks and stations.
With construction adjacent to the Gold Coast’s main hospital, several schools, businesses and homes the Southport Roadworks has received significant ongoing community and media attention.
Seymour Whyte and the GCRT project team developed an integrated traffic management and communications strategy. Proactive communication with the community has enabled the team to identify early on, any stakeholder impacts of upcoming traffic changes and construction works, therefore ensuring timely distribution of communications materials.
Effective Community and Stakeholder Management:
Seymour Whyte Constructions’ Community Relations team liaised with and provided project information to over 2,000 stakeholders on a regular basis.
To date, the team has managed a total of 815 stakeholder calls or requests for information.
The Seymour Whyte Constructions team has, to date, conducted a total of 1,103 separate community engagement activities to inform community members about works. These activities included doorknock visits, letterbox drops, phone calls, letters, emails, and meetings with affected residents and businesses.
88% of directly affected business owners and residents surveyed about the roadworks reported that they were satisfied with the project’s engagement efforts and initiatives to reduce construction impacts.
