Seymour Whyte has secured a contract with Major Road Projects Victoria for the upgrade of Clyde Road, an essential north-south arterial route over the Princes Freeway in Berwick, southeast Melbourne.

This project focuses on enhancing traffic flow and safety and includes the following key components:

• Upgrading a 1.2 km section of Clyde Road
• Adding additional lanes between the Princes Freeway and Kangan Drive
• Widening the existing Clyde Road bridge over the freeway
• Upgrading the Clyde Road/Kangan Drive intersection
• Constructing new and upgrading existing shared walking and cycling paths
• Installing new street lighting, road signage, drainage, and landscaping

The Clyde Road upgrade incorporates several sustainability initiatives, demonstrating Seymour Whyte’s commitment to environmental stewardship:

• Greenhouse Gas reduction opportunity analysis: Focuses on renewable energy, solar, and hybrid plant and equipment to lower emissions.
• Recycled first plan: Prioritises the use of recycled content in construction materials, promoting a circular economy.
• Hydrogen power trial: Implements Victoria’s first hydrogen generator for civil infrastructure, showcasing innovative sustainable technologies.

Clyde Road provides crucial access to the Berwick Health and Education Precinct, which includes Casey Hospital, St John of God Hospital, Chisholm TAFE, Federation University, and Berwick Railway Station. The upgrade will support the precinct’s growth by improving connectivity and accommodating future expansion.
