Seymour Whyte has been awarded a significant transport infrastructure contract by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads for the construction of the South package of the Coomera Connector Stage 1 — South East Queensland’s second major north–south motorway.

The project involves the delivery of a 4.4-kilometre section of the new corridor, designed to improve connectivity between Logan City and the Gold Coast by providing a vital alternative to the M1 Pacific Motorway.

The scope of works for the Coomera Connector Stage 1 South (Smith Street Motorway to Nerang-Broadbeach Road) includes bulk earthworks, hard rock excavation, ground improvement activities, and the construction of three new bridge structures — including an approximately 300-metre-long bridge over the Nerang River.

Other works comprise new intersection interchanges, noise barriers, and associated infrastructure.

, “We’re proud to continue our strong partnership with the Queensland Government on a project that will transform how people and goods move through one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. The Coomera Connector represents smart, future-focused infrastructure — and Seymour Whyte is committed to delivering it safely, sustainably, and efficiently.”

John Kirkwood, Seymour Whyte Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer

“This project exemplifies the scale, complexity, and community benefit of the infrastructure Seymour Whyte is proud to deliver to support local jobs, and create long-term benefits and sustainable outcomes. We’re committed to working closely with stakeholders and residents to deliver this project with care, respect, and lasting value for South East Queensland.”

Steve Lambert, Seymour Whyte Chief Operating Officer

“Stage 1 South is a complex project with many technical challenges — from hard rock excavation near a railway line to bridge construction over a major waterway. Our experienced team is looking forward to working with key stakeholders to deliver practical, well-engineered solutions that meet the needs of the project, the environment and community.”

Will MacDonald, Seymour Whyte General Manager – Northern Region

The project will also feature a range of environmental and innovation initiatives, including fauna-sensitive design solutions, water quality treatment systems, and the use of digital engineering for more efficient planning and delivery.

The 16-kilometre stretch from Coomera to Nerang, comprising the North, Central, and South packages, is planned to open progressively to traffic from late 2025. Once complete, the Coomera Connector will help alleviate congestion on the M1, improve freight efficiency, and support the region’s rapid population growth.
