Building First Nations career pathways through CreekConnect

Upper South Creek Networks Program’s First Nations Business Administration Job Ready Pathway Program Graduation, May 2026

As part of National Reconciliation Week 2026, our Upper South Creek Networks (USCN) Project is celebrating the successful completion of its inaugural First Nations Business Administration Job Ready Pathway Program.

Led by CreekConnect – our project joint venture partnership with Jacobs – the pilot program was developed to create meaningful pathways into infrastructure careers for First Nations people in Western Sydney.

Bringing together First Nations businesses, training providers, employment services and industry partners, the program helped participants build practical skills, confidence and connections to support their next career step.

The program achieved strong outcomes, with 90% participant retention and 100% attendance. Every participant met program expectations, felt supported throughout their journey and reported feeling confident and ready to apply for roles. More than 90% also reported increased confidence and job readiness.

For graduate Brayden, the program provided more than just training.

“Programs like this create real opportunities — they give us the confidence and pathway to actually step into a career,” Brayden said.

A highlight of the program was a Yarning Circle facilitated by Indi Connect, which provided a culturally safe space for participants to share experiences, build trust and reflect on their journey.

The success of the program was made possible through collaboration with a range of organisations committed to creating meaningful employment pathways.

Participants didn’t just complete training – they showed up, leaned in and backed themselves every step of the way. Their achievements demonstrate the impact that can be created when industry, training providers and community partners work together to build genuine pathways into employment.

As we mark National Reconciliation Week and its 2026 theme, All In for Reconciliation, this program demonstrates how meaningful partnerships can create opportunities, build capability and support long-term outcomes for First Nations peoples and communities.
