In recognition of these achievements, the QMCA presented John with the award at a ceremony held on Friday, 20 March 2026.
John’s career journey has seen him make significant contributions across multiple organisations and industry bodies. He has served as Chair of the QMCA, President of the Queensland Master Builders Association (QMBA), and a Board Member of the Australian Constructors Association (ACA).
Throughout his career, he championed industry participation, professional development, and opportunities for the next generation of construction professionals. Beginning his career as a building cadet, John steadily advanced as the industry evolved. While working full‑time, he completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (Building) through evening study – an early demonstration of the drive and persistence that would define his career.His journey stands as an inspiration to aspiring, current, and past construction professionals, showcasing the value of dedication and lifelong learning.
Since 2015, John has led Seymour Whyte’s executive team through a period of sustained growth and transformation. Following his retirement from executive duties, he transitioned to the role of Chair of the Board, ensuring continuity of leadership and ongoing strategic guidance.
In November 2025, Seymour Whyte also recognised John with its own Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging his exceptional leadership and enduring contribution to the business.
