Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade (South)
About
Under Major Road Projects Victoria’s (MRPV) ‘Tranche 2B’ collaborative procurement panel, Seymour Whyte has been appointed as head contractor to design and construct an extra lane, upgrade of intersections and installation of safety barriers between Princes Freeway and Manks Road. This Incentivised Target Cost collaborative contract includes:
- a 5km duplication from two lanes to four lanes between Ellett Road and Manks Road
- rehabilitation of existing road pavements
- new roundabout at Ballarto Road
- 5.4km of new shared walking and cycling path
- 23 fauna underpasses by way of dual-purpose culvert structures
- safety barriers along the road, urban design and landscaping works.
Some environmental initiatives to reduce impact and protect the endangered species include:
- Building frog ponds to form an ecological link, varying-width fauna underpasses, including creek bridges and drainage culverts; to protect federally listed endangered species (Southern Brown Bandicoot and Growling Grass Frog)
- Installing fauna fencing to guide species into the fauna underpasses
- The new fauna underpasses will facilitate continuous movement for the endangered fauna throughout the landscape.
Seymour Whyte worked collaboratively with MRPV and design partners Aurecon throughout the tendering phase to improve design and constructability; and deliver positive social and environmental outcomes for the community.
