Project 2C is for the construction of a new riverside road alongside Cooks River, widening of a section of Cooks River Drive, and a new pedestrian cycle bridge connecting to Level 1 of the existing multi-storey car park.

The purpose of the Project is to enhance the efficiency of traffic flows leaving the precinct, as well as enhance the safety of vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The completion of the new road will help to alleviate congestion issues arising from merging and weaving traffic trying to access the Arrivals Court, Departures Plaza and terminal carparks.

Key scope includes:

  • 150m long tanked, reinforced concrete structure adjacent to Cooks River, existing TfNSW Marsh Street bridge structure and beneath the ground
    water table
  • 170m long steel pedestrian bridge including varied span lengths and interface with existing multi storey carpark structure
  • Widening of existing Giovanni Brunetti bridge to allow for additional lane for access to International Terminal
  • Extensive temporary works including sheet piling and de watering
  • Management of contaminated ground water and spoil
  • Management of acid sulphate soils
  • Civil works for tie in to existing road and stormwater network.

“Thank you so much for the effort you and your team have put in to getting the footbridge operational this morning. I know it wasn’t easy, but this hasn’t gone unnoticed and is sincerely appreciated.

It is having a significant positive impact for to all who work and visit the airport… on foot, on bike and in a car. Thank you.”
