Seymour Whyte to build new bridge to Wellington Dam’s iconic mural

Seymour Whyte is strengthening its presence in Western Australia with the award of the construction contract for the Wellington Dam Bridge Replacement Project.

The project for Water Corporation will replace the existing bridge at the foot of Wellington Dam, near Collie, with a new dual-lane structure featuring new approaches, new pedestrian footpath and improved safety barriers.

The new bridge will enhance access and offer an unobstructed view of the dam’s famous mural, ‘Reflections’ — the world’s largest dam mural spanning 8,000 square metres — helping attract more visitors and supporting regional tourism in Western Australia’s south west.

The existing bridge has been closed to vehicles and pedestrians since 2021 and will be demolished in the initial project phase.

During the construction, traffic management measures will be in place, with clear detour signage to ensure minimal disruption to the local community.

This project builds on the successful delivery of Perth’s culturally significant Boorloo Bridge, Seymour Whyte’s first project in Western Australia.

Western Australia is a key regional focus area for Seymour Whyte’s strategic national growth, reinforced by the recent appointment of Mark Davidovic as General Manager, Western Region.

“We are excited to deliver this project, which demonstrates our long-term commitment to Western Australia, and we look forward to working closely with our new client, Water Corporation,” said Mark.

“This project strengthens our presence in Western Australia and is a testament to our existing strong relationships with our supply chain partners, our commitment to supporting local industries and our expertise in delivering infrastructure that creates lasting value for the communities we work in.”

Seymour Whyte brings over 35 years of experience delivering collaborative, large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide. Preliminary work at the site is scheduled to commence in late March 2025.
